Our Story
In a family of dedicated coffee drinkers, I was the tea-sipping outlier.
Growing up, the house always smelled of roasting coffee beans, espresso and filter coffee. But while everyone else was chasing that heavy, dark caffeine hit from the beans, I was quietly fascinated by something else. For me, it was always the leaves.
What started as a childhood preference turned into a lifelong pursuit of the perfect cup.
My journey into tea began on the ground in India, where I spent years exploring the nuances of local tea estates. My perspective was further shaped by our family’s travels; as a stay-at-home mum, I accompanied my partner on international postings that took us from the heart of Indian tea country to the coffee plantations of Costa Rica. My loyalty to tea never wavered.
I became obsessed with the "why." Why did some teas taste like honey and malt while others tasted like... well, disappointment. I learned that it came down to the craft: the elevation of the garden, the timing of the pluck, and the meticulous grading of the leaf.
Despite my deep dive into the world of speciality tea, I noticed a problem. Most of my friends drank tea, but the supermarket version of tea, you know.. the tea bag version of dust. Whenever I tried to share my passion for loose leaf with friends, they felt intimidated. They found blends and catalogues that made them feel like they were back in a science classroom.
They wanted great tea, but they didn't want the lecture.
It was the supermarket tea bags of dust for the common folk and premium tea for the tea connoisseurs wearing fancy hats straight out of the Cheltenham races.
That's when I realised Brockworth Tea Company needed to exist.
I’m Mythili, and I built Brockworth to be the bridge.
